This Time on Tristan Rail Productions we take you to the state of Maryland to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad for a very special occasion! Trains Magazine Hosted a Photo Charter for The Return of (Former Chesapeake and Ohio) 2-6-6-2 Mallet No.1309! Although Still Fresh out from the rebuild 1309 Certainly Will Not Disappoint in the Video! We Attended this Fantastic Charter and Join with some Amazing People and friends, and Was Well Worth the Trip. The Charter Started from the 25th to the 27th, Starting with a Night Passenger Train to Frostburg and Back, On Saturday morning the 26th, we Start the Adventure With Many Runbys at Various Locations Such as City Junction, Helmstetters Curve, Garner Meadows Etc. No.1309 on the Charter Pulled a 10 Car Freight Train for the Scene from back in Time to the Steam Era, Which the Last Time an Articulated Steam Locomotive Every Went over this Trackage of the Western Maryland was in 1953. This is the First Time in 6 Years that a Steam photo Freight was Since Western Maryland No.734 went out for the 1,472. After 7 Year of rebuilding 1309 finally is Complete, and Starting this Year, 1309 will Debute her Revenue Passenger Runs to Frostburg, MD Starting in May. No.1309 Surely did not Disappoint and Was like a dream seeing this in Person. (Former C&O) Western Maryland 1309: A 2-6-6-2 "H-6" Class Mallet Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949, and Operated on the Chesapeake and Ohio Hauling Heavy Loads of Coal Trains in the States of West Virginia and Kentucky. 1309 worked Hard and was Heavily Used, doing So Until it was Retired in 1956. It was Stored at a C&O Roundhouse In WV, for 20 Years and Sat, and In 1970s She was purchased and brought to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum in Baltimore MD, where 1309 was Cosmetically restored for Display. In 2014 The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Purchased it after many attempts, and Brought her from the B&O Museum to Cumberland MD by Rail, on a Flatbed Car. After Arriving at WMRR, Work Began on the 1309, and While Restoring the 1309 many Setbacks and Eventful Things steped in the Way of the Restoration, with funding Low, and Money Low, there was no Telling what was gonna Happen.That Still never Stopped Getting 1309 back on the Rails. 1309 was purchased to Replace 2-8-0 Western Maryland No.734 after being taken out of service for its FRA 1,472. The Project almost Haulted in 2017, with major Issues. After Many Large Funding and Help from the State and the County, the Project Continued. A Boiler Test Fire Happened in 2018. in 2019 the Project Haulted Once again, but With Funding that came in it Continued again. In Late December of 2020, No.1309 Operated under her Own Power for the First time in 64 Years! Now with Many Shakedown runs and Successful Test runs on the Line In November and December of 2021, No.1309 is Finally Completed and is Ready to Operate for Years to Come!
